Columbine healing fund raises $2.3 million Associated Press
LITTLETON Nearly $2.3 million has been raised for the Healing Fund for victims of the April 20 Columbine High School shootings, the fund's advisory committee announced Tuesday.
So far, $390,000 has been distributed, including $5,000 to each of the 38 families directly affected by the tragedy, $150,000 to support a mental health center to assist those affected by the incident and $50,000 to the Colorado Office of Victims Assistance.
Mile High United Way initiated the fund with a $20,000 gift while several news media companies agreed to match 50 cents for every $1 donated up to the first $1 million.
Twelve students and a teacher were killed in the Columbine violence before student gunmen Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed themselves.
